I remember reading some stuff about how all 3G iPhones will be opened and activated in store. Can anyone confirm this? Has anyone who purchased at an AT&T store taken home an unopened box?

Yes I can confirm they are NOT opening boxes. They can't activate because systems too slow. I was told I needed to activate at home. However you can't activate at home either, iTunes server is overwhelmed right now.

Here in New Brunswick Canada, the S/N and the SIM Card number are on the back of box. However, he did take it out to show me how to use it. I'm not sure if you could ask the sales rep to just leave it in the box or not.

They opened my 16GB and tried to activate in store. iTunes was hosed. They then sent me home with the phone to do it myself.

Edit: This was in Gadsden Alabama
