Does MacOS still have problems handling displays with BGR subpixels instead of the usual RGB? This caused blurry text rendering mainly and only info I can find is older.

macOS no long uses sub pixel antialiasing, so it shouldn't be an issue anymore.

At the same time it is often recommended to turn it back on via terminal for displays that are not retina level, which is the majority of external monitors not made by Apple. I haven’t experimented with this enough on my 1440p display to tell how much it matters.

In my experience, doing the CGFontRenderingFontSmoothingDisabled tweak via Terminal did not entirely get things back to the way they were pre-Mojave. It seemed like windows using more advanced compositing like semi-transparent areas got confused and text did not look right.

Really it's a losing battle because it's pretty obvious that Apple only cares about HiDPI on all their platforms.
