I'd like to use the iCloud Custom Email feature to get email from a personal email domain I'm currently having forwarded via Dreamhost.

The trouble is, I've used iCloud email in the past and found it to be unreliable. It seems to have invisible spam filtering, which means some messages just disappear if Apple believes they're spam. I used to use an iCloud.com address for my business and actually lost work because of this.

Does this spam filtering happen with Custom Email? Or does it just send EVERYTHING through to your email?

I use protonmail with a custom domain, precisely because how poor of a job icloud does with spam filter, and the lack of customization/configurations.

I don't hate icloud email, and I use it, but I've been limiting it to just mac stuff I buy/use/register via my appleid.

Never had ANY mails disappeared. At worst, they go directly into "Spam". 🤔

Well, how do you know?

That's literally the problem.

It's a situation where paranoia sets it, and you dismiss it initially, until you get a few cases where you can prove it.

Sorry to hear you've had issues. I've never had any trouble with custom domains in iCloud, seems to be pretty rock solid and saved me some £'s (as I already paid for iCloud+) as I could cancel e-mail hosting elsewhere. The spam filtering seems to pretty spot on, very rare to get a false positive.

Mine worked fine for a year and a half until it didn’t anymore. I have two mailadresses on my domain. My primary and a “test” one. My primary address haven’t received any mails for over two months and Apple apparently can’t fix it. The test address works fine, so it can’t be a dns issue.

I have an ongoing support case but nothing is happening. Very disappointed about this.
