Hi All

I have the ipad2 and use the data plan. Question I have if I leave the data on and just put iPad in sleep mode is it still using data?

Thanks in advance

You only use data when you try and access the web. If you are downloading updates or safari is open then you are using data. If your iPad is in sleep mode and you have angry birds open you are not using data.

Ask yourself this. Are the apps that are open trying to access the web?

Push data, gps apps that run in the background, other apps that use location services all could be accessing data in sleep mode.

Ok if I hit the home button and the put the iPad into sleep mode it is NOT using data? Right?

I guess it's not that big of a deal to go into settings and turn off the cellular but if I forgot and just put it into sleep mode I don't want to use up my data. ESP since I lowered my data plan.

My iPad uses quite a lot of data while in sleepmode. This is over 3G even though it's connected to my home network.

So, NO the iPad uses data while in sleepmode.

If you have any of the following then your iPad WILL use data in sleep mode:
Email
iMessage
Anything with Push notifications
Find my iPad

My advice to you would be to go into settings and toggle mobile data OFF, before putting the iPad in sleep if you want to save your data allowance for when you are actively using the iPad.

Left Streaming Porn Site on iPad - auto connect to work wifi

I have a question regarding how the iPad automatically connects to wifi and what data is transmitted to said network when iPad is in sleep mode.

I viewed a streaming porn video on my iPad at home. I closed Safari, but didn't close out the site I was at. I then went to work. My iPad automatically connects to my work wifi. I didn't open/turn on my iPad while there (it was in sleep mode). However, I need to know whether or not the porn site Safari was 'parked' at transmitted data to my work wifi. Again, I didn't turn the iPad on, didn't open Safari, didn't refresh the page. It was just open in the background.

My thinking is that since I didn't open Safari, the page didn't refresh/reload, and therefore no data was transmitted. Am I correct?
