Is date reset in iMac Snow hardware problem

I can buy some iMac's model Snow, but they all have the same problem: if you start them up again the date keeps resetting to 1970.

I know about the battery and stuff, but I also heard that it is a hardware mailfunction within the machines themselves.

Has anyone experience with this problem?
