Is Facebook App Tracking Calls?

Forgive me if I missed something like this in a previous thread.

Recently a few Android friends have been up in arms over the latest Facebook update in that it states they can track who you are phone, etc.

I personally do not care what the app does, but I did not see any such update notice for the iOS version and if this would even be possible?

My theory of such fine print would be it would mostly exist to allow the voice and video calling features? I would think in iOS have Facebook in the background would not be possible to monitor anything the phone application is doing.
