Buying Mac Pro today. One of the primary functions will be simple editing of home HD movies (going to upgrade camcorder this weekend). Curious whether final cut express 4 is a good buy for this work or just plain overkill. TIA

iMovie is fine for that. FCE is really overkill unless you are going to get quite involved in the editing. FWIW, iMovie is also really easy to learn, and fast to create home movies with, so you will save yourself a huge amount of time with iMovie for your purposes.

If you have iLife '08 but hate the new iMovie, you can download iMovie 6 HD for free. It works fine alongside the latest version. But both support 1080p.
