Is finder always on?

I have done the update and there is now a little blue light under the open apps in the dock which is pretty cool. But is finder supposed to always be open?

yah its a little strange to get used to once you notice it.

It has always been like that - previously it was I think a little triangle…

And yes, Finder is always "on".

Yes. Finder is always running and always has been in OS X. It also displays the files on your desktop and does a number of other things.

yes Finder can't be closed (without third party help at least afaik).

tbh i think there should not be circle there its a service thats needed to run so in thoey only needs to be on if user request to open finder
