I have had 3 iphones but never a tablet. my wife and I have always just had laptops and they are usually close by the couch. was wondering if getting a ipad 4 is a good idea. the upgrades from the 4 to 5 arnt that great other than size/weight. and I wont know the difference.

opinions on if it seems like a good idea or will it really lag as ios has updates?

refurbished also, if apple still has them possibly also.

right now is the best time u can get great deals used iPad 4s since a lot of the people selling wanna get the new shiny one.

It's a fine idea but get a good deal on it. You might be able to pick up a 16GB model for around $375.00 or less.

If we were talking about a refriderator I'd agree, but we are not. We are talking about a mobile device. Size and weight are huge, and you can tell yourself you won't know the difference but you will after using it for a bit.

I can say the from personal experience having gone from an original (very heavy) iPad to a seemingly featherweight iPad 2. Loved that model. I then bumped up to the 3 b/c I wanted a retina screen. Loved the screen but hated the weight. Ironically the weight was the reason I fell in love with the non-retina mini. But now the 10" is light and the 7" has retina so I'm very happy w/ both.

Don't cheap out unless the extra $ means that much to you. (The Air kills the 4 in the speed dept too). Lots of great deals on WiFi Airs even now ($40 off at Microcenter) and even better deals coming Black Friday.

right now I can get a refurb ipad 4 32gb from apple for $449. think that is good or do they usually go down with the holidays?

Really tough to say. When the iPad 4 came out the 3's really dropped in price about two months later. That might not apply for the iPad 4 since it's perceived to be a better unit than the 3 was.

Get the Ipad Air. There are alot of deals around on Black Friday. Once you pick up an Air you will never go back, its that much smaller and lighter. I think IOS7 runs much smoother on the Ipad Air due to enhanced processor and graphics. Ipad Air will also have better resale in a few years.

or $30 more you can get

Brand new Ipad Air 16gb
Newer, faster chip
Half pound lighter
slightly smaller

The Ipad4 is a fine tablet. Really, it is. But....

This is NOT correct. Like I just told OP, I got my 32gb iP4 on eBay for 300 bucks and it was only 6 months old with no scuffs or anything.

Depends on what you want to do.

If all you want to do is to read books and check email then it's not dumb.

Are there any specific apps you want to run?

If you can get an iPad Air for $100 off at Target on Black Friday it will be hard to beat that anywhere. The 16GB could be a bit limiting but I'd rather have to manage which apps I keep installed and have the Air over a previous model.

The iPad mini is even cheaper and you might like that one as well.
