It's because of the inevitable, unavoidable, mishandling of the phone itself which would leave it to fall/drop/thrown. Skins won't do good as much compared to cases.

Just depends what you are looking for. Total protection from falls, scratches, or just something to protect it from "everyday" use. Everyday use I would say is just the skins. Leather step up from skins for the more "classy, business" look. Acrylic case (depending on what kind) for the total protection within reason! As I say in all threads, get something on that iphone to protect it!
