by the look of the videos of imessage it really doesnt look like bbm it all it just looks like "Blue text messages " that you can tell if they have been read. Theres no Profile picture, contact list, able to make a status update.

There are soooo many iOS devices out there. Sending messages from iPads, iPods, iPhones, and maybe OSX is gonna be great. BBM killer? I think RIM is dying off anyway.

Apples not *really* got a good track record on this...anyone use ichat?

I think it will be a great text saver and means you can message even without a phone signal and I have no doubt it will prove popular tho :)

The streamlined approach is exactly what will make it attractive IMO.

Contacts are handled by...your contacts.

RIM is doing more to kill BBM than any other company by failing to innovate and losing market share.

I think it has nothing to do with BBM, but it will significantly kill txt messaging.

The iPad has profile pictures as you text.

BBM is killing itself, iMessage is just an option for iOS users. If anyone out there kept their blackberry solely for BBM (which I doubt but you never know I guess), well now they have one less reason to keep their blackberry

Me and my circle of friends all use iPhones and I have upgraded most of them to the GM build of iOS 5 that was released last week, and we have been enjoying iMessage.

But my brother and his circle of friends all use Blackberries and even though my brother wants an iPhone, yes he is grasping to his phone just for BBM because his friends won't get iPhones.

These people do exist, sadly grasping to their Blackberry phones (my brother uses the Torch).

Why in the world would iMessage be a BBM killer if it doesn't work on RIM's network? You can't kill something if you exist in separate worlds.

Are you asking if people will abandon RIM for iOS devices in larger numbers now that there's a free non-SMS way of communicating?

If more and more people switch from Blackberry to Apple, those left behind will feel pressure to do the same since they no longer have a path to message their friends without text. Over time that could have an effect on the overall usability of BBM.

Think Google+. People don't use it because everyone they know are on Facebook.

I do know people who have hesitated moving from the RIM platform due to using BBM to communicate with family overseas. iMessage looks to address that for the iOS platform.

RIM is trying to kill BBM this week - 2 days of outages affecting EMEA and South America.

Edit: bigjobby beat me to it

iMessage isnt going to kill BBM, Blackberry is going to kill BBM. in about 10 years we will all be watching "i Love the 2010's" on Vh1 and michael ian black and all the B-list celebs will be making fun BBM.

BBM is more of an IM service than texting. iMessage is more like free texting with the ability to see if they read it or not. iMessage being free or not makes no difference to a lot of us on AT&T since we are stuck with the unlimited texting plan.

When I had a Blackberry a few years ago before droids were coming out, I only had a few friends with Blackberrys. So using BBM was more of a hassle because we only used it with each other, but we tried using it since it was available to us.
