I am confused...

But iMovie is a full featured app, you can add text...songs and cut and copy alot easier then pro...why don't you just give it a try?

They're very different apps doing different things. iMovie edits DV footage allowing you to add titles, effects, music, still images and allows you to output it to iDVD or a number of other formats. It keeps the footage in it's original DV format so at over 3.5MB a second the files get pretty big. For export to iDVD or the web etc the files are compressed further.

QT Pro allows you to cut a paste movie/audio footage in a variety of formats and convert between them. It's not really for creating your own movies though.

iMovie (or one of the Final Cuts) is for editing your own home movies captured with a camcorder.
