I know 3GS was quite a bit faster than the 3G. Did they improve the iPhone 4 with a faster processor than the 3GS?

The A4 chip brings in better power management so it may be a tad faster, but not like the jump from the 3G to the 3Gs, fast.

If the iPhone 4 is just as fast as the iPad because of the A4 processor, I think I'm on board with going for the early upgrade. I've played with the iPad and it is ridiculously fast.

Nobody knows. We have no comparison yet. No idea how fast the A4 is clocked. But I hope so!

I read on a tech site that the A4 chip if clocked at the same speed as the 3GS(600MHz), the iPhone 4 would still be about 25% faster. I can't find the site again with a quick search and I'm no microprocessor engineer so I don't know if it's true or not.

On the assumption that it is true, then yes it will be faster.

Not necessarily, they might have been clocked differently, due to battery, heat, etc issues.

I'm hoping Apple didn't underclock the A4. Considering the minimal battery life gain, I want to say they didn't.

The 3GS A8 chip was manufactured at 65nm. The A4 is either 45nm or 32nm, either way it is more power efficient. Power efficient + larger battery = fully clocked A4.... I hope.

Even if the A4 is undercloked, it'll be to 800MHz, still a noticeable speed bump from the 3GS.
