Do you guys think the iPhone X colors will be the same or different from the iPhone 8 colors (gold excluded of course)? I watched a bunch of hands on videos from the keynote but no one seemed to compare the 2 products

Yes I do believe they are the same colors.

Hmm. Better get over to the Apple store and check them out. In the ‘which colour X' thread the speaker grey 8 looks much greyer than I had anticipated - I thought it’d be black.

The front of all iPhone X’s is black, the rear should be the same color as on the 8, eg. silver on 8 back is same on the X.

saw the 8 SG in 2 stores today and it looked different than expected... looked very.. bland to me.

did not look like it had any pearl essence effect. and apple talked about the X having this effect in the keynote. the same was not mentioned when they introduced the 8.

might be different after all. i hope.

No. The The X is stainless steel. The 8 is aluminum. When comparing blacks you can see the difference. Both the Silver & Black iPhone X have the same edge toed glass display with the same black 'notch' ™ however the back glass and bezel appear different.

The iPhone 8 / Plus appears to have a more matte finish on the aluminum. Also the black glass looks more silver to me but I think this depends on the lighting. It could be the same as the X. I'm not sure.

On the back of the X you can see the color of the glass and how the bezel is a lot shinier / polished

lol @ 'notch' ™

Yeah, it's really hard to tell exactly how it looks cause of how easily light reflects on the glass. I'm trying to figure out how black the space grey color really is. Before the announcement I wanted a black iPhone X cause I've had white for the past 2 or 3 phones, but if it's more of a light grey then I think I prefer the white/silver version.

I prefer the SS Apple Watch so i will get the matching SS iPhone X

They should be the same colors that you see on the 8 and 8+. Same glass and backings, why would they be any different?

They certainly could, but that would be an undue cost for them. I imagine that the colors will be identical to the ones that we see on the 8’s.

They’ll be different production lines - having different tins of paint delivered to each line isn’t going to cost them any more. And at the keynote they did emphasise the aesthetics, talking about pearlescence of the colouring on the back so even if they are the same colour, the treatment may make them look different.

I do find it interesting that Apple give you so little information to make a decision - over the lifetime of the product, most people may have the ability to watch youtube videos or see them in stores. But for early adopters there isn’t much material out there to properly judge the colouring etc.

The iPhone X is polished stainless steel and the iPhone 8 is anodized aluminum.

They won’t be the same.

Both iPhone X front panels are black as well, so for me personally I don’t find the back and side band colors to be too important.

Good points in here. Moving on to smudge and fingerprints, do you guys think one color will hide that better compared to the other color? I could see the silver version hiding fingerprints a bit better

I would expect the stainless steel to show more fingerprints. The glass will probably be the same.

Looks like the silver back on the X is indeed different. Maybe a little bit darker, maybe more translucent. So the "space grey" X back will probably be slightly different from the 8 as well.

I agree with the stainless steel frame. But with the glass back, I could see it being more visible on the space grey. Technically the glass will be the same on both, but I could see the darker color behind the glass making the fingerprints easier to spot.

Sorry to bump but I thought it might be worth revisiting this discussion now that the phones have released

I put my space grey iPhone X next to my friends space grey iPhone 8 and we also noticed a similar difference as this picture shows with the silver models

The iPhone X space grey is a bit darker in hue. It's only noticeable side by side but it's noticeable just as these silver colours are, it's different in a similar way if that makes sense

Interesting! From some video reviews I also gathered that the space grey X was slightly different and darker, but with the variable lighting in those videos it‘s always hard to tell.

There an extra layer of yellow/pearlescent film between the color and glass for iPhone X. The colors are slightly glossier to match the shiny stainless steel bands.

You can see from this video:
