Is iPod now truly Mac-PC compat. in iTunes 4.1?

I was wondering this because I have a friend who has an iPod, but when he bought it, since he didn't have Mac, I told him to use my computer and iTunes to manage his iPod rathering than having to use the crappy MusicMatch software. Well now that iTunes is ported to Windows he was asking me if it was possible to now manage the iPod seamlesly between both platforms. I remember before reading that it wasn't possible to do this because the iPod was formated for Mac or MacOSX and upon insertion into a PC, will need to be reformatted for it to read it, but will screw up the music imported on the Mac. So hopefully someone who has tried this, or with a bit more knowledge than I have on this subject can provide me with someone info, so I can therefore pass it on to him. Thanks very much.
