I've been having a lot of problems lately writing DVD's with my MBP. I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to get one of those discs with tiny bristles that one inserts to clean the drive. I'm wondering if maybe there is some matter in there that is causing the problem. thoughts?

Take it with a grain of salt but I have used them before with no issues. But I wasn't having any issues to begin with. Was simply doing it to keep dust from building up.

Hey. I have a 2007 MBP which would not read/write blank DVDs so I inserted my cleaning DVD and it solved the issue ! Just let it run around 5 minutes.
