Before school starts up, I'd like to buy a new 13" Macbook Pro 2.5gHz. However, I feel like I should wait until the notebook event in October, or at least for an update. I've been hearing that Apple is going to build GPS and possibly a 3G chip into the Macbook Pros. Is it worth waiting a few months, or should I opt for one now?

Thanks,

Peter

Where have you been hearing the GPS/3G rumours?

the only think i can think of is maybe the tablet coming out later on, but its no going to be as powerfull as the macbook pro. I got the macbook pro last thursday and i love it :D you should get it

WOW!!!

is there an alternate mac universe i am not aware of.

I did not know there was an event this october and i surely did not know anything about a 3G chip being introduced at the same time.

I guess all of us that bought MBP in June are screwed.

Every Apple product you buy will be superseded by a better one soon after you buy it.

They had an event last year on October 14th.. so I'm assuming that they will do the same this year, especially because they're not attending Macworld.

I just thought it would make sense that Apple would add GPS to their laptops. Snow Leopard has corelocation, so one would speculate that maybe they're going to add GPS in the near future.

Well, looks like you want to wait. Wait then. I don't think anything that pertains to MBPs is going to happen in October, but it looks like you want to wait. My advice: buy if you need it.

You know with all the "should I wait to upgrade questions" maybe people should buy the cheapest Macs and then upgrade every year or sooner. This way they will always be ready to upgrade when the new computers come out...or the other solution is wait until the end of time to upgrade because there will always be something better in the future. ;)

No computer is future-proof so if you need one now then buy one now. If you are willing to wait then wait but realize that electronics are constantly improving because how else are they going to get us to buy new products if they don't improve them? It's a never ending cycle.

Also do you really need a GPS computer? That's not really a feature I care for myself so I wouldn't wait for it and it sounds like the whole GPS thing is your speculation that isn't based on any creditable source so you will probably be disappointed.

December is a date that might happen, but holiday seasons means no, but that would be the earliest Intel could possibly deliver the chips. Apple gets things early, not a half a year before.
