Is it bad for your eyes to stare at the iPhone screen for long periods of time? Because I've noticed, after playing a game from the app store for a long time my vision gets blurry for about 30 min. after using iPhone. Can it cause permanent damage?

If you are concerned with your vision, then you should regularly check it using our "Visual Acuity" app :D

Staring at the iPhone for a long time is no worse or better than staring at the sun for the same amount of time. :p

If your eyes hurt from doing any activity, then you should do it it less. If you think you are using your phone "normally" and still have eye pain you should see a doctor. Do your eyes hurt any other times, aside from using your phone? How long do you use it when your eyes begin to hurt. It's definitely not good to have blurry vision for 30 minutes due to playing a game or whatever on your phone. This is definitely an indicator that something is wrong.

Somehow I can see his mother standing over him saying "If you don't stop staring at that screen you're going to make yourself blind!" :D

It might give you a headache, but don't worry about it. Personally, I couldn't stand to look at my screen long enough to watch a movie. Maybe that is just me.

As an optician. The answer is no. You might be straining your eyes because your focusing in the same thing for an extensive time. But it goes away, which im guessing it did. If you were really having trouble. You would not be asking macrumors this question
