With AT&T's new upgrade policy, I wondering if it's best to buy a new iPhone sometime between July and September. For those of you who bought during this time last year, your time until subsidy eligibility basically decreased from 18 to a 9-12 months wait. And if AT&T continues this policy next year (as they may have set a precedent), for the new iPhone, you again will be eligible for a subsidized phone again around this time.

For me, I bought my iPhone in December. My eligibility, unlike people who bought in July-Sept, will still be 18 months. It makes me wonder if I should suck it up and take the hit now. If I dive-in and buy now, I will be essentially be buying a every 12 month subsidy period (assuming the precedent has been set: people who bought during the months of July-Sept enjoy fully subsidized pricing when a new iPhone comes out). Is this logic correct?

Coincidently, I am eligible for fully subsidized pricing in 7/2010, so I will eventually get on this "preferred" subsidy schedule.
