Is it better to put the MBP to sleep before moving it?

Hello, I know that each MBP has a motion sensor that protects the hard drive. When walking with the laptop with the LCD screen lid opens, be it short or long distance, is it actually better to put it to sleep before moving? Thanks.

I'd you're just walking, it will be fine to leave it open.

No makes no difference.
If you drop it the SMS should trigger and protect it. Just moving it around won't do any damage. You can go jogging with it in your hand, not practical but it wouldn't hurt it.

Jogging is probably a bit too severe on the HDD, although walking is fine.

Just avoid repeatedly exposing it to sudden jolts.

What about if you put it in your backpack and ride your bike? Should you turn it off or is sleep ok?

Sleep is ok, as once it's in Sleep mode the HDD stops spinning. It's that bit in between closing the lid and the HDD stops spinning where the damage is caused.
