Is it better to wait in front of AT&T or Apple store at 6am in NYC? That's the earliest I can get there. ATT will have less inventory but Apple will be mobbed.

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

The sad truth is no one knows. You just have to take your best guess and hope it pays off. Sounds like supplies will be very limited. Unless you want to go to the Apple Store 12 hours in advance, there are no guarantees.

Apple will have at least 10X of each phone. I woud stick with the Apple Store.

Its kind of a pick your poison situation ...

1) Wait outside an Apple Store with a lot more people where they will definitely have more iPhones

2) Wait outside an AT&T Store with less people and probably less available iPhones for purchase.

I would probably wait outside an Apple Store since I think they'll probably stock a TON more.

NOBODY here knows:

a) How many phones each store will have
b) How many of each color
c) How many of each carrier
d) How many of each size

and most important:

HOW MANY OTHER FREAKIN PEOPLE WILL ALSO BE TRYING TO GET ONE!

Why do people keep asking?

As said no one knows, but I will share my experience from last year.

I went to about 5 different carrier stores that morning, and all were sold out or had huge lines. I finally gave up and went to the Palo Alto Apple store. As in Steve Jobs store (as the legend goes). I didn't go here first cause I thought, no chance in hell.

Walked straight in, no line, walked out with a new 5.

If there's any issues or unforeseen problems with your account, choosing to buy from the carrier takes away any potential delays or denials. You'd be surprised at the unforeseen issues that many have with their carriers. Anything less than clear sailing and Apple sends you away.
