yes it is.

It may be out of updates next year. It depends on the price though. How much would it cost?

900 USD is an absolutely horrible deal, even maxed out. Buy an air from the refurbished or education site if you're on a budget. Better Screen, Keyboard, Faster Processor, better battery life, and plenty of support for years to come.
I have 1 more for under 800 USD but with a high battery cycle count.

Going from a late 2013 to a 2015 isn't going to be much of an upgrade. Except maybe a minimum spec 2013 to a maximum spec 2015. I couldn't see making that move. Nor would I get any of the butterfly keyboard models.

$800/$900 are insane prices. That nearly pays for an M1 Macbook Air. Which'll blow any of them out of the water.

As for a 2015 13" model. Even with 16GB RAM and in good condition is only worth $475 at the most. The 15" can be found in the $550 to $600 range.

I still couldn't see paying that much for those models now. These are six year old models for only half the price of a brand new MBA. They'll probably be culled with macOS 13.

The only way I could see doing it is paying $450 to $600 on ebay for a 2015 13-15". Then sell yours on Craigslist or Offerup for $350 to $475 (depending on specs and 13" or 15"). Then you're out about $100 for a modest upgrade.

Don't be fooled by those retailers with "refurbished" computers. They aren't any more reliable than eBay. Heck eBay is more reliable if you stick with good sellers. As you can easily return anything with a not as described claim. You avoid those claims and any hassle by paying attention to the listing's description and examining the photos.

thanks for the advice ! May consider the macbook air now, but i do love a big screen haha

The main reason to consider the 2015 would be if you already have a high capacity NVMe drive that you’d like to continue to use.

Speccing up a new machine with a 2TB SSD isn’t cheap.

OP I've always loved the 15" 2015 as well but its not worth $900 right now. If it was around $700 I'd say its an ok buy but even then you are getting an old device that is going to encounter issues sooner than later.

Thanks for the help! Yeah i really love the screen size but in my country(Singapore), the second hand market still prices them above 700 USD..And its almost the same price as the MBA M1.

The only way I see an improvement is if you're going to a 2015 15 MacBook Pro from the 13. The extra cores make a big difference (I've had both 13 2015 and 15 2015). If you need something now in 13, I'd recommend the M1 Air.

I would stay away, and I ADORE my 13" MBP, but looking to sell it as it sure seems like it will be dropped in '22.

Would you recommend an upgrade to the SSD or the Ram for the M1 Air? I do a bit of photo editing/video editing, starting to encroach into 4K video editing.

Ram. Then again, I have an M1 air, 8gb, 256SSD, and it handles everything I throw at it. That, and lack of fan noise make it the best MacBook I've ever owned.

I'd definitely recommend going with 16 GB. That's what we have in the one I got for my daughter.

We got 1 TB of storage but it's dependent on your setup. I'd get a smaller one myself as I have a NAS set up. Cloud storage, external drives and a NAS complicate the storage picture.

Then unless you have a specific need for Intel CPU, I'd suggest the M1 MBA if it otherwise fits your needs.

$900 for a six year old computer with a CPU that Apple is actively moving away from just doesn't seem like a wise choice.

SSD needs to be whatever size you need to comfortably work with your usual files. Externals are great for once-in-a-while stuff, but they're inconvenient for stuff you need all the time unless you're on a desktop or docking station.

Photo & video editing - I'd suggest the 16GB. Even with a single photo open Affinity Photo and Adobe Photoshop use 2GB and 3GB ram respectively. Open a bunch more photos and RAM usage goes up a lot with Affinity Photo and less so with Adobe, but still enough that 16B will give you more flexibility even if you could manage with 8GB

LOL definitely not for $900. My work was clearing out 2015 models for $400-$500, and I didn't even bother picking one up for that price.
