Hi guys. I just read another old thread and the guy overclocked his rMBP's GPU 650m to the max. settings possible with MSI Afterburner and he even got to higher clocks with other programs. It was aboslutely stable. I wonder if overclocking up to a stable level harms the hardware. If yes, is it possible to overclock without such harm.

You mean is it harmful to increase the heat in a laptop that already runs hot just for a few percentage points of performance increase (see where I'm going with this ;) ). Seriously, it makes little sense to OC a laptop, and I do think it could very well be harmful since cooling is an issue
 
It can make a huge performance increase but you need to keep an eye on temps.
