i was on a voicechatting site and people keep saying my Mic is bad. Is MacBook Pro mic really that much worse than the things they sell at stores?

Can you provide an audio sample? Which specific MBP do you use and what chat software have you been using?

A friend of mine once used my iBook G4's microphone to record a voice over and it was very usable.
Is your environment silent or noise-ridden or something in between?

Btw, you do mean the MacBook Pro, not the Mac Pro, don't you?

I find the MacBook's mic quality quite clear - though overly sensitive. That might have led to some interference coming through in your case. I find it way too sensitive to use though - I can be standing 5 feet away and talking at normal volume and it's picking me up loud and clear; a bit much for my needs, so I use a USB studio mic that works wonders, but isn't as good on ambient noise.

I chat on Skype with my MBP and the Mic works great. Maybe something wrong with the site you were using? Or maybe in the worst case scenario something wrong with your MBP.
