MY powerbook's DC in has gone kaput and for the rice of a repqir I might as well look at a fully working one, 2nd hand. This that's putting me off though is.... how do I know if it's legit? Is there any way of checking serial numbers?

Here's hoping you guys can stop me from buyng a pup ;)

Buy locally and make the exchange at a Mac store where they can scan the computer for operational defects.

i just did mine the other day- took them less than 5 minutes to check it.

now that's a bloody good idea! Does kind of restrict me to sellers living near a main city center but it's like an RAC check on a motor i suppose.

Surely this isn't a free service?
