I just bought a new MBP a couple weeks ago and I noticed everytime I start it up, it seems like the hard drive makes a whining noise. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Thanks for the info. I think it is the HD because it sounds like a disk reading/writing whenever I press the on button. It only happens when I start up the computer.

Is it a high pitched buzzing sound? Or is it simply a sound you expect from a HD that's no longer idle?

it sounds like a hard disk winding up. it's not really loud or high pitched. i just noticed it does that only during startup and it really doesn't make a sound anytime else during normal operation. although, i haven't used the superdrive yet either, so maybe i should test to see if the superdrive makes any noise.

Yeah I think a test would be prudent. Otherwise, I don't think you have too much to worry about. As long as your HD doesn't sound sick :p you're probably ok.

No problem (though I don't think I did much ).

Be sure to have all your stuff backed up just in case. However, I think you'll be ok.
