Heading to pick up new iPhone from personal seller. He wants to keep the SIM card, is there any concern with this?

It is generally understood that the seller keeps the SIM card as it is of no use to the buyer.

Ok thanks, that's what I thought. It's brand new, sealed in the box so I was unsure. Can I just use the SIM from my 5s and place it in the new phone and do I need to notify my carrier?

If the carrier is the same or the new phone is unlocked, you can simply move the SIM card over.

Seller claims it is the same carrier. How do I know if it's locked or not?

If it is the same carrier that you are currently on, the unlocked status of the device is doesn't matter.

Thank you so much for your help! I'm finally picking up my 6 plus. I'm paying an extra $100 but it's worth it to be done running around trying to get one.
