Is it possible to ad hoc sign a kernel extension yourself

I have an old Xbox controller. I can use it wired using a third party kernel extension. It's on GitHub with and is regularly recommended and appears safe

However it's old and the signing certificate has expired. Which means Sonoma won't load it unless I disable SIP, which security aside leads to certain other things not working

Is it possible for me to ad hoc sign the extension myself. (I know I can do this with apps). If so, how?

"The primary reason a signed kext cannot be loaded is if it was signed using a Developer ID Application signing identity that was not enabled for kext signing.
