I’m in the US and thought we have a year to add AppleCare+ through physical phone inspection at Apple Store. I did this with a watch last year and was able to add AppleCare+ after 90 days. Yesterday I tried to add AppleCare+ to my release day 16PM (a week after 60 days) and was denied both with C/S and the store manager.

Has it changed to a 60 day hard rule?

Yes. See #2 under “How to Buy” (scroll down)

My understanding is it's a straight 60 days now, and I don't see anything in @Bigwaff or @Madhatter32's links to convince me otherwise.

There used to be an option for examination at an Apple Store during the initial year of warranty but that seems to be gone now.

Ed: @Bigwaff answered "Yes" which I took as an answer to your question "Is it possible" but they may have been answering "Has it changed" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy the two year AppleCare+ coverage and then convert to monthly after that? Or do you have to buy monthly (and pay more) from the start? I'm pretty sure I was offerred the monthly coverage on my watch after the original coverage expired.

I received (living in Italy) an offer to switch to the monthly coverage at the deadline of my 2 years AC+ for previous devices (12 mini, iPad Pro 2018). I will se if it will happens again at the end of January for my 14PM.

Yes, in many countries you can do that.

My 12.9 M1 iPad Pro's AppleCare+ expired November 24th and the morning of the 25th the option to pay month to month appeared in the Apple Support app. I don't see why you wouldn't get the same offer the day after yours expires..

Yes you should have that option. My Apple Watch Ultra AppleCare+ expired. I had the option to pay for another 2 years or month to month. I chose another 2 years, before I upgraded to the Ultra 2.

I just want to reply to this for anyone seeing this in 2025. Not 1 hour ago I went into the apple store (United States) and was able to add AppleCare+ to my iPhone I got back in September (It is now may). I've heard you can only do this if your devise is under one year old, but I can't speak to that claim because my devise was under one year old. The whole process took about 10 minutes as the store wasn't busy. I was given the option to pay for one years worth, or monthly, but was not given the option between regular AppleCare+, and AppleCare+ with theft and loss. The only option I was presented with was AppleCare+ with theft and loss. If you really want AppleCare+ and you are over the 60 days, yes you can get it at the apple store.

P.S. I read on reddit you can do it at BestBuy but can't confirm that either.
