My Verizon contract isn't up for another year but I plan on selling my 4S and buying the new iPhone that is released. Does Apple or Verizon sell iPhones for full-price (either online or in-store) around launch day? Or must I wait a few months before buying an unsubsidized phone? If there is anyone who did this when the 4S was released please let me know how it went. Thanks!

yes, both in store and online. When you go to buy online below where it makes you select the carrier, it links to full priced contract free phones.

Thanks! But is this true for pre-orders as well?

I would assume so. When you pick it up on launch day, at checkout, it will show that you are not eligible for an upgrade and tell you the resulting price (whether it is a partial upgrade, or full price).
