i need to send in my rmbp for repair/replacement.

i am planning on backing up all my content and doing a secure erase, but i was wondering if theres a way to "Temporarily" transfer all my backed up info to a mac desktop and be able to actively use a "mirror version" of my rmbp

while i wait for my replacement

can i just create a guest account on the mac desktop and then restore from backup that way? i dont want to erase anything on the existing mac desktop i just want to use it temporarily just as i wouldve used my laptop

Clone your rMBP HDD onto an external, and plug the external into your Desktop. No need to format anything, just retrieve files off of it as necessary until you get your replacement.

If you really want an exact mirror you could partition your Desktop HDD and perform the same procedure, only doing a restore/migration of the external drive onto the new partition.
