Is it possible to find a lost iphone

With any apps that a can it from the number or where signal is from if you didn't previously install MobileMe or any program ahead of time on it?

If you didn't install find my iPhone or something similar to that, you wont find it without just getting lucky and running across it. But unless you lost it somewhere in your house that isn't likely.
