A friend of mine just bought a "new" iPhone 4 from Amazon (or better: from a merchant that sells through Amazon) - and having this iPhone now in front of me there is not doubt that this is a new, never been used iPhone.

However, when I check the service and support coverage with the serial number on Apple's website I get these results:

- Valid Purchase Date: A validated purchase date lets Apple quickly find your product and provide the help you need.
- Telephone Technical Support: Expired.
- Repairs and Service Coverage: Expired

I'm not really surprised that this iPhone has no warranty anymore - it's not directly from Apple or Verizon and with $295 it was not very expensive. No complaint here.

But I'm still wondering: Is it possible to find out when this iPhone has been bought and when the warranty expired?

You can buy one of those imei checks...
Interesting. I did not know that there are such checks to buy. I only know http://checkesnfree.com/ which is free (but only tells you whether an ESN is clean or bad).

When I search for "imei check" I get many results for free services but none for money. And most of these services do not accept the iPhone's 14 digit MEID because IMEI's are obviously always 15 digits long.

Do you know of any such service that works with a 14 digit iPhone MEID?

Just send apple the amazon invoice by clicking the confirm purchase date. I did the same thing with an amazon used AirPort express(a serial check said my specific airport express was manufactured summer 2012) and they gave me a warranty end date of march 2014(one year after I bought from amazon)

Also, in case it was confusing the "confirm purchase date" should say you picked the wrong purchase date/date unknown. Just press continue and follow the instructions to send the amazon invoice(you can get this from the "My Orders" part of amazon)
