Is it possible to fit a commercial DVD on a single layer DVD?

Hi all

I wish to make a backup copy of my Mad Men DVDs, each about 8GB, but I only have single-sided (4.7GB) DVD+R disks.

Is there a way to copy the DVDs to such smaller DVD+R disks and still keep the menu structure etc so that it plays in set top DVD players?

Or if I can't keep the menu structure, how can I copy individual episodes to disks (CD or DVD) so they play on set top DVD players?

Toast will compress the video files to fit a standard DVD R and keep the menus intact.

Check out DVD2OneX. It is commercial software but, IIRC, it will do what you are looking for.
