I want to make a ringtone from a song that is currently showing up as an iTunes plus file. Which, as some know here, cannot be made into ringtones. So, is it possible to set my iTunes Store preferences so that it doesn't show up as iTunes plus immediately, and I can buy the song in it's regular chock-full-of-DRM format?

You have to sign into your iTunes account through the Music store. From there, at the top, there will be a button to click on to Manage iTunes Plus. Click it and then uncheck "Always show me iTunes Plus music and music videos when available." and then Save Changes.
