Is it possible to lock the iPhone while using Facetime?

Is it possible to lock the iPhone while using Facetime on an iPhone 6? I used to be able to do this with my iPhone 5S on iOS7, however since I got the iPhone 6 I can no longer lock the iPhone while using Facetime. It just disconnects the call. Help!!
 
I just noticed it locks when on WIFI but when on LTE it hangs up. Is this normal and can it be changed to not hang up?
