Is it possible to play audio from both the dock connector and headphone jack?

Not to my knowledge.

I've researched this before because I wanted to precue with headphone in djay, while having the music come out of the iPad.

I think it's due to having one soundcard.

First, it will not invalidate your warranty, at least not the hardware. You can also always restore, and leave no trace of ever having been jailbroken.

Second, what is this aftermarket software you speak of? That information would certainly be helpful in this case.

It wasn't always. Apple changed their views when the courts essentailly decided jailbreaking was legal.

No I mean the simultaneous audio output not the legality of a jailbreak, haha.

Is it necessary that it's plugged directly in to the dock? Assuming the dock has an AUX plug, throw one of these in your iPhone:

Then have your headphones plugged in to one socket, and an AUX cable going from the other one, to the dock / speaker system.
