Hi, I have a MacBook Pro M1 14" and I am wondering if there is a way to set it up to automatically have an external device, attached by hdmi, set up as an extended or second desktop - not mirrored. I am the techie in my family and hubby is not, but he uses the laptop for work and we have set up his main TV to be a second display, but when he is using a different display, or a projector, I haven't set up, then it often defaults to mirror. If I were onsite then it would not be an issue, but we are trying to keep things as easy as plug and play for him.

Thanks,
Mary

If I'm not mistaken, you can. System Preferences –> Displays and drag that whine line to your preferred screen. As well as there should be additional choices for screens.
But it won't handle as a separate desktop (like from a separate user account)
