Is it possible to share a Photos Library between 2 macs?

I have a 2012 Mac mini and the photos library is stored on an external HD

I have just ordered an M1 Mac mini - if I share the external HD can photos on the M1 use the same library as the 2012?

The answer is yes provided you point the Photos app on your new M1 Mini to the external drive where the library is stored.

Having said the above, you do need to be careful though especially if you plan on doing any editing of photos or moving, copying, etc. You don't want to accidentally overwrite a photo because you forgot that you already edited it with your other Mac.
