Is it possible to stop the pause/play button on a Bluetooth headset launching iTune?

When you use an iOS device the pause / play button on a Bluetooth headset works normally. On OSX it launches iTunes (seems F8 does the same thing).

Seems a patch for Lion exists but unsure what to do with Mavericks?

Did the posted patch not work?

I don't think you should have to do anything different for Mavericks.
