My dad is planning to buy the iPhone 3GS to replace his iPhone 2G. He currently lives in China, but he doesn't want to buy it there since it doesn't have WiFi and because of the high price. He asked me to jailbreak it for him. I was wondering whether I can still jailbreak it if I buy it within the month, because I heard that Apple is going to prevent it soon. I learned how to do jailbreak it from 3.0, but I'm not sure about 3.1 since it now ships with it. I need to unlock it for him, but I need to jailbreak it first. If it still possible to unlock/jailbreak it, which software do I need to use? Thanks!

The above posters are correct, but you should be aware that if your phone is one of the most recent ones it will only be able to have a tethered jailbreak. You should read about it here before you decide to jailbeak.
