Yeah, why wouldn't it? When you hit the home button to switch apps the video portion pauses, but the call continues.

I just asked myself. Why don't you just try it while on a FaceTime call? But whatever the answer is yes.

That would be the smart thing to do. Some people just don't think.

Hit the home button during FaceTime. It will pause your FaceTime video, audio will continue... Send your iMessage, return to your FaceTime call.. Works like a champ.
