Is it possible (or even practical) to edit video in iMovie, if the video was taken on an Android phone, in this case a Galaxy S9 Plus?

Because I am new at this, and before I get frustrated with trying to do something that may not be possible, I thought I would come to a community and simply ask the question and save my self some aggravation.

Thanks e1me5!

I have a mid 2102 MBP running High Sierra 10.13.6. Would this likely run smooth? I will give it a try and see myself.

I'm in a bit of a tough spot so to speak. I love my MBP and have had good luck with it for years. However I have also had Samsung cellphones and TV as I love them too! So that's why I have been posting questions about how to get these 2 Iconic brands to "play-nice" together. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Lately I have had some interest in filming with the Samsung as it produces some nice results. So, I am continuing my quest to see if it is practical to continue this way.

Thanks again for your insight!

I have a 2012 15" MBP and I can edit 4K video from professional Sony cameras without a hassle, using FCPX (iMovie's bigger brother). I doubt you will have any problem at all. I doesn't matter what brand your camera is, Macs can handle most file types with ease. But when you export for TV you have to know what file format your TV can read.

I can edit (more like merge clips into a single video, not adding any graphics) videos from my dash cam, an Android phone should be fine also...

Great!! Just the kind of info I was hoping for! Thanks again guys for sharing your knowledge.

Kind regards..

I believe that only mp4, mov, m4v files are supported...things like avi, mkv etc dont work with apple

I can now confirm, that you can indeed edit video shot on Samsung phone in iMovie, (just as many of you already said)!!! I got the chance to try it last night and it worked. No 3rd party app required!

Thanks again guys...
