I'm relatively new to the apple scene, and I've got several movies from blu ray discs in the Windows format. Is it the same as PC where I need to find some kind of software that I need to purchase and then wade through until I get them converted to mac friendly file types? Or is it relatively easy to convert my Windows video media to Mac?

What do you mean with "Windows format"? .avi or .wmv?
If it is .avi (which is not really a Windows format), then use Handbrake, if it is .wmv, you should take a look at Flip4Mac and its products.
If it is something else, post the information here, thus more helpful responses can be aimed at you.

Sorry I wish I could... I'm not entirely sure what the format is. I'm assuming it's wmv because when you choose which format you want your video file in (iTunes or Windows Media Player). I'll have to double check it when I get home today.
