Is it safe to play an HDV tape on a regular mini DV Deck?

I have a HDV tape that's recorded in 1080i. I don't have the camera that it was recored on right now, but I want to review the footage on a regular mini DV deck. I later want to capture the HDV tape in full 1080i.

Is it safe to play it on the mini DV deck? Will it distort or lessen the quality of the 1080i recording?

A tape recorded in HDV will not playback on a Mini DV deck.

No, the DV Deck will explode. So don't try it.

Just kidding, but DV is older than HDV. When they built the DV deck they didn't thought, hey let's make it read a format we don't know yet.
