I'm ready to convert from google drive to icloud drive, but I don't know if it's too soon, or if my documents will even be there if I delete this Yosemite beta and return to Mavericks...

Once you upgrade your account to use iCloud Drive, you can no longer use iCloud Documents and Data. This means you can't save files to iCloud from most Maverics applications. Calendar, notes and contacts are still synced, but iWork for example can no longer save documents to iCloud after the upgrade, and you can not access iCloud Drive from Mavericks.

There's also no guarantee at this point, that anything you store to iCloud Drive will stay there. So i'd recommend waiting until Yosemite is released a couple of months from now.
