Is it true my 3 year old MBP no connect to new 24" cinema?

I just read where someone said that they 2 year old MBP would not connect without a $160 cable? Is that true???

If it is I guess I will be buying that 27" imac

Don't know how much the cable is but it's true, true, true, that you need one just like your comment in your other post...
