My wife has a 2019 Intel-based MacBook Air that she no longer uses, so I decided to do a complete erase-and-reinstall and use it as a travel computer. It doesn't support macOS 15, so I had to use macOS 14. I posted another thread about having problems activating iMessage with a new Apple ID (iMessage crashes right after I log in), but I'm also having problems with 1Password (when I download and run the installer, I get an error saying it can't find the URL of the installer) and NordVPN (when I try to sign in, it asks for my NordVPN keychain password, keeps reappearing every time I click Deny because I don't know the password, and disconnects my WiFi even though my main system Settings says I'm connected). I've tried all the suggested fixes for all three problems, to no avail. All of these work fine on my wife's and my newer Macs with macOS 15, as well as our iPads and iPhones with iOS 18.5. I've been using Apple devices since the early 1990s, and it occurs to me that this is the first time I've ever tried to use an older device that doesn't support the current OS version. Is it typical for older OS versions to have compatibility issues with current versions of apps? I read posts all the time about people using older OS versions. Sonoma is only one version back. Anyway, I've spent too many hours trying to resolve these three issues, so I'm giving up on the MacBook Air.

How did NordVPN get on the computer if you don't use it? Uninstall that and I bet the rest of your networking will start working again.

I do use NordVPN on all my Apple devices. I downloaded it to my MBA from the NordVPN site, logged in with my account information (email address and password), and clicked Allow in that dialog box where it asks to set up a VPN configuration. On every other device where I've installed NordVPN, I'm good to go at that point. On the MBA, that's when it then asks for my Keychain password. There is no option to close the dialog box -- just a choice of Always Allow, Deny, or Allow. The help page says this shouldn't come up, but if it does, the Keychain password should be the computer's Administrator password. If that doesn't work (it doesn't), the help page says to run two commands in Terminal. Those don't work. The only option is to click Deny, quickly quit NordVPN and delete the app before the Keychain password dialog box pops up again (which it does even after I quite the app), and reboot, because Safari and all my other apps say I have no Internet connection, even though Settings says I'm connected. Once I reboot, my Internet connection returns. I've tried this three times, with the same results.
