Not a fan of the notch, but do you guys think Apple will add Face ID in next years refresh of the MBP.
I’m currently waiting for my MBP to be delivered but Face ID would be a major selling point if Apple would include it in their next refresh.

COnfused as to what to do? Help

The better question is: will the MacBook Pro even be refreshed next year given the current state? (TSMC delayed their 3nm process until 2023)

And honestly, I don't miss Face ID. It's not very useful if my MacBook is in clamshell, and it's not that much of a hassle to reach for Touch ID now that the button is massive and almost impossible to miss.

Face ID makes more sense on the phone or iPad since I have to unlock those over a million times a day, but it's not like I sleep and wake my MacBook a million times a day.

Well said!

Firstly, I would not assume that there will be a new model next year, likely yes, but for certain no, as Apple does not always update its notebooks every 12 months and the gestation period of developing the next iteration of the M series processors is not known at this stage.

The best advice is to upgrade when you need to, to when the sum of all of the improvements make a significant difference to you, balanced with the price you pay.

Each time Apple updates its notebooks there will always be something new round the corner, you will be always waiting for the next best thing.

Touch ID is super quick and if you have an Apple Watch then you can use that to unlock, which is likely to be just as quick as Face ID.

I’m starting to doubt that faceid is coming to the mbp’s - originally thought it was a constraint of camera physics/thinness but increasingly wondering if it’s just that Apple don’t see it as useful/secure. I think I read a review on MR with Federighi suggesting that they had chosen not to put it in, not that they had had to leave it out?

Either way, it’s not something I’d personally delay upgrading for - touchid is super convenient and lightning fast in the new MBP.

There is no assurance there will be Face ID next year. Buy for what you need today not based on rumors on the internet.

If they ever get rid of TouchID for FaceID it will be a MacBook that I never purchase. I hate it on the iPad Pro. Its great on the phone but on the iPad with Magic Keyboard I hate pulling the thing up to my face every single time I want to use FaceID. Its super annoying.
