Hi

My wife have iPhone 14 right now. She thinks about bigger screen, so I want to buy for her 16 Plus or 15 Plus.

In my country there is no Siri in our language yet, therefor AI will not come in next few years or be useful enough.

My wife coudn’t care less about action button or new photo button.

So with those things in mind are there really any big differences to buy 16 Plus for more? In USA it’s $100 between models. In my country it’s more like ~$125 more for 16 Plus…

Any advice?

Given your wife’s preferences and the fact that Siri and AI features aren’t a deciding factor, here’s a breakdown of whether the iPhone 16 Plus would be worth the extra cost compared to the 15 Plus:

1. **Screen size and design**: Both iPhone 15 Plus and 16 Plus have similar screen sizes (6.7 inches), so she’ll enjoy a bigger display either way. The difference in design between these two is minimal, especially since the action button and photo button aren’t important to her.

2. **Performance**: The iPhone 16 Plus will come with a newer chip (A17 Bionic), which means a bit more processing power and longer-lasting performance over time. However, if she doesn’t use her phone for heavy tasks like gaming or editing videos, the A16 chip in the iPhone 15 Plus is already quite powerful and should handle everything she needs smoothly.

3. **Battery life**: Both models are likely to offer similar battery life, as improvements in battery are usually incremental between model years.

4. **Camera**: The camera differences between the iPhone 15 Plus and 16 Plus are not massive unless she’s really into photography. Both will take excellent photos.

5. **Future-proofing**: Spending more on the iPhone 16 Plus means it may be more "future-proof," supporting iOS updates a year or two longer than the iPhone 15 Plus. However, for someone not focused on advanced tech features, this may not matter much.

Considering the extra $125, unless she cares about having the latest processor or extending the life of her phone by a year or two, the iPhone 15 Plus seems to offer more than enough for her needs. The 16 Plus may not justify the extra cost in her case.

I'm happy that AI isn't something im anxious for. Im sure I will use the mess out of it when it comes because I use Siri ALOT. But it's not deal breaker for me that it's not available now

If possible, buy her a “like new” iPhone 15 Pro with box, along with a cute, colorful case or some flowers with the money you’ll likely save.

The differences in screen speed on the Pro via ProMotion to the base 16 or Plus make a huge impact on the perceived performance of the device side-by-side, the A17 Pro processor will mostly match the standard A18 in performance. You get Apple Intelligence, the Action Button + an additional 3X Zoom Lens and Titanium Frame. Plus an Apple Sticker. Yay!

ProMotion represents the last “worth it” update to an iPhone since the 12-series. It’s why Apple hasn’t trickled it down to the base model since its release with the 13-pro series. USB-C is a close second, but the EU forced them on that one. You also don’t contribute more waste the environment or reward Apple for putting legacy screen tech into an expensive device. Accessories are also readily available at cheaper prices.

Despite their great palette this year, nobody in the standard iPhone range should update to the new standard iPhones. They would all be better off doing what I described.

The Pro 15 is easily a 5+ year phone and will likely get all the important updates as the 16 series. Although the new colors are appealing, Apple are gouging customers with both lines this year. You can simply get a better phone, cheaper if you’re willing to sacrifice the value of “new”.

I have 15 Pro and my wife can’t tell the difference between 120 and 60 Hz panel. That’s why I don’t consider this model.
